Participation Requirements for First-Year CeO Scholars

1. Apply to CeO

Please review CeO’s participation requirements <<<TODO – LINK>>> and complete an application.

You must be accepted at UW-Madison before you can apply to CeO.

2. Attend Cohort SOAR

Once you are admitted to CeO, you must register for and attend one of the campus orientation programs, Cohort SOAR.

Important: CeO Scholars are required to attend Cohort SOAR, which is only offered on specific dates.

2026 Cohort SOAR Dates:

  • Monday, June 15 – Tuesday, June 16, 2026
  • Monday, June 23 – Tuesday, June 24, 2026
  • Wednesday, July 15 – Thursday, July 16, 2026

3. Complete Early Move-In & SFS

First-Year CeO Scholars are assigned an early move-in date in late August to attend CeO’s First-Year Orientation Program, SFS (Strategies for Success).

Strategies for Success (SFS) is a five-day, fun-filled orientation where we welcome you into the CeO community and prepare you for a successful first year at UW-Madison.

SFS officially begins the morning after move-in.

  • Early Move-In: Sunday, August 23
  • Pre-SFS Mixer (optional): Sunday, August 23
  • SFS: Monday, August 24, 2026 – Friday, August 28

4. Register for CP 115 & a HIP Course

First-Year CeO Scholars are required to register for two required courses:

  • CP 115
  • At least 1 HIP option

A. CP 115

Counseling Psychology 115: CeO Educational Effectiveness (CP 115) is a 1-credit course exclusive to First-Year CeO Scholars that must be taken both fall and winter semesters of your first year.

CP 115 is designed to help you acclimate to campus, adjust to the rigor of college academics, and foster a sense of community and belonging.

B. HIPs Options

High Impact Practices (HIPs) provide hands-on learning that connects classroom knowledge to real-world experiences. You don’t just learn—you do. <<<TODO Phrasing?>>>>

First-Year CeO Scholars must select one of UW-Madison’s many HIP options for your fall semester or the summer term before your first fall semester.

1. Tri-Semester Advising

First-Year CeO Scholars are required to meet with their CeO Advisor a minimum of three times per semester. <<<TODO – Add more>>>>
